Ok, so I have been cloth diapering the babies for 1 week now (in flats and prefolds with a cover), and I have a question - how many diaper changes do you use the cover for?

The overnight ones typically have a stink to them, so I toss them right in the hamper, but the ones during the day I sometimes can end up using for consecutive diaper changes without noticing any pee pee odor.

How many changes do you use 1 cover for, typically?

As many as you can until it stinks or gets soiled I think. If you have an absorbant enough diaper underneath or you're changing really often I would think you could basically go all day with only 2 covers.

I usually rotate between 2 covers all day and then throw them in the hamper at night, unless it gets poo on it.

It depends on the cover and how wet baby is from one change to the next and if it was a dirty, but I find that I can use just 2 covers during the day if I go back and forth between the two all day long and then use one of them for the night.  We use Mother Ease Air Flow covers almost all of the time.

I too go between two (sometimes only one if I'm out of the house and the spare is elusive!) as long as none of the poo gets on it.  My wool I switch over every change to let dry.

I switched covers every change to let the previous one air out. I rotated through four covers. But unless they were soiled or started to stink even when dry, I just washed them once or twice a week with my regular laundry.

For PUL, I'll use the same one all day sometimes as long as it's neither stinky nor soiled.  We use mostly Thirsties, though, and they're shiny and wipe-out-able inside so that makes it easier.  With BSWW or Swaddlebees that are not shiny inside, I alternate.  With fleece and wool, if she's not soaking wet, I just use the same longies/shorties over again.  If the dipe is really wet, we alternate.  :)
