Make sure you check the energy rating. We went with a upright that is EnergyStar rated (I'm not sure if you have that in the US) but it was more efficient than a chest freezer. Also, I bought cheap plastic baskets with holes in the sides at Walmart and have a basket for veg, for beef, for chicken, pork, leftovers and fish. That way I always know where to find what I'm looking for.

My GPs got us a little chest freezer for our garage and we love it. My GPs have a bazillion extra freezers (two chests and an upright in the basement and a chest or two plus an extra fridge/freezer combo in the garage-- they freeze a *lot* of veggies, fruits, etc.
). Honestly, though, my granny hates her upright. Stuff always fall out when she opens the door (granted, she packs it way too full ), and she still has to dig for items almost as much as she does in the chests. Although, if you used the space in an upright efficiently, it would probably be a nice kind to have. |

We have an upright and love it. My hubby buys meat in bulk, we have frozen juice, veggies, bread, butter etc... I love that you can get at things alot easier than a chest. I thought he was crazy when he first wanted to get one but now I think it's great. We can buy in bulk and now that we live in 'tim -buck-too' driving to the grocery store is a little more cumbersome....having more freezer space=less grocery shopping for us!

So let them be little
Cause they're only that way for a while Give 'em hope, give them praise Give them love every day Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle Let 'em sleep in the middle Oh but let them be little |

We have a chest freezer, but unfortunately it's currently filled with a Jumperoo and some other things in storage. I loved it when we had room for it though. We just kept the basics: meat, veggies, fruit & bread in there. It wasn't too difficult to get things out, but we did have some baskets in there which helped.
DH and I loved having so much frozen fruit on hand. Halfway thawed it made a great snack or dessert anytime!
